“Ancient Land”, Jane Walker’s debut single is being released to radio next Monday, 11 February 2008. With Kevin Rudd moving towards an Apology on February 13th, “Ancient Land” is a timely celebration of Australian identity and a call to unity.
The haunting melody and lyrics draw upon Jane’s childhood in Sydney, growing up in a world filled with Aboriginal street names and suburbs – Tamarama, Coolangatta…but no Aboriginal faces. And a hope that divisions will end and reconciliation be achieved.
Aboriginal rapper and Deadly’s Winner, “Predator” from Street Warriors is featured on the recording:
“It’s time to make things correct now /
Acknowledgement is what we all desire now”.
English producer Steve James produced the song at Byron Bay’s Rocking Horse Studios, and the recording also features The Cruel Sea’s James Cruickshank on keys and Skunkhour’s Warwick Scott on guitar.
